Join us as we hear from Jodi Essex, Government Contracting Specialist with ISU's Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS). Jodi will give a brief overview of the various opportunities that are available to businesses through government contracting.  She’ll discuss the various agencies that could be potential customers, the most common ways to find opportunities with those agencies, how these agencies typically buy goods/services, how selling to the government differs from selling to consumers or other businesses, and key characteristics of successful government contractors.

Jodi's Bio:

Jodi Essex is a Government Contracting Specialist with ISU’s Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS).  In this role, she assists Iowa companies with selling their goods/services to city, county, state, and federal agencies.  Prior to this role, Jodi worked as a Purchasing Agent at Iowa State University where she was primarily responsible for managing the University’s travel program, as well as procuring a variety of other goods and services including moving and professional services.  She has also worked in the private sector as a Buyer – Strategic Accounts  for a local incentive marketing firm.  Jodi holds a BA in Business Management from Benedictine College, Essentials of Government Contract Management Certificate from Villanova University, The FAR Bootcamp® training certificate, and is a Certified Verification Counselor with U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.   She resides in Urbandale with her husband, two children and English bulldog.
