This presentation will offer an overview of the 6th Avenue Corridor Streetscape Project, scheduled to begin construction in 2018, as well as new developments in the works along the 1.2-mile Corridor. The 6th Avenue Streetscape will be the longest and most environmentally-sensitive streetscape project undertaken in the City of Des Moines.

The 6th Avenue Corridor Streetscape enhancements will transform this historic Corridor and focus on "complete street" design, green infrastructure, and the integration of public art. Plans specifically call for a road diet to reduce traffic lanes from five to three which will allow sidewalks to be widened and space for bioretention cells for storm water management. Calming traffic will foster a more positive and safe pedestrian environment while supporting small business stability. Public art will celebrate the rich cultures of the district, which is within the most diverse zip code in the State of Iowa.
Several upcoming development projects will be highlighted and opportunities for new development will be discussed.
Presenters:
Breann Bye, Executive Director, 6th Avenue Corridor Urban Main Street District
Aaron Todd, Board President, 6th Avenue Corridor Urban Main Street District
